Talk it through with the SI guide

Not a crisis service

If you are in danger, or thinking of ending your life, get help now.

Who James is

Nearly twenty years recruiting across travel, aviation, hospitality and MICE, and a firm of twenty of his own, watching industries change shape around the people inside them. This guide speaks in his words. It is not James, and it is not a person. Read more about James

The basics

Nobody taught most of us what happens in the weeks after a redundancy. We were assumed to know.

Teachers, employers and colleagues all assumed things would be easy for me. Every one of those assumptions was wrong. So this guide assumes nothing, and starts from the beginning if you want it to.

What this guide is for

For the man whose role has gone. It helps you think clearly about the next few weeks and one next move. It does not value your package, advise on law or find you work.

Why it is rarely one problem

A redundancy is rarely only about money. It lands on the sleep, the drinking, the marriage and the body. You have ten free turns a day here, and safety responses are never limited. Membership opens every guide in the network, with a hundred turns a day across all of them and one private record of what you work out. See what membership includes

Safety, for this guide

You are speaking with an SI guide, not James replying live. It can help you put what you are noticing into words and consider a next sensible question. It is not a recruiter, lawyer, financial adviser, therapist or emergency service. It cannot advise you, assess your case, value anything, find you work, contact anyone on your behalf, or monitor you.

It does not forecast, and it does not advise. It will not tell you what your chances are, how long this will take, what you are entitled to, whether your redundancy was fair or lawful, whether a settlement figure is reasonable, or whether to sign anything. Those are questions for an employment lawyer, and they usually have a deadline. If money or safety has become the emergency, stop and use your local emergency services or a specialist service — the safety page lists the routes.

Do not paste your agreement or name your employer here. Nothing written in a chat window is privileged.

The safety page lists where to go.
